Nickname: Rue-called as a boy by his parents, his bother still uses this name

Education: Graduated top of his class at a swordsman academy

Gleipnir[SR2] : long hilt, room for six hands. The blade long and shaped like a fang.
A long dagger, like a large hunting knife.  
 
Background: small town in the southern swamps; located four days ride (on horseback) from the kingdom of ____(a booming town!) His Mother was a baker and his father a member of the army. He was often gone in business but he was a kind man who believed in Justice and the Law. There was strife with a neighboring kingdom and his dad and brother often disagreed over sides. 
His brother, 7 years older, would stay gone for days sometimes and come back, refusing to admit where he’s been. On his 17 birthday he left and stayed gone for 6 months before returning and slaughtering his parents. Roel came home to find his father lying in his own blood on the floor and his brother stabbing his mother. He cried out at the sight, alerting his brother of his presence. ‘Ah little brother,’ His smile was crazed, blood splattered all over him, ‘I’ve been waiting for you to get home.’ He ran to attack Roel, who took off running but not before his brothers blade slashed across his upper back, leaving a nasty gash and a future scar. If not for their neighbors hearing the little boy and coming out, Roels brother would have killed him. But when he saw people he whispered, ‘I’ll be back for you little brother,’ and ran off.
The neighboring lady wrapped the boys wound and took care of him until he was healthy; they were a poor family so they could not raise the boy. Roel was then orphaned; he left the town and survived on the streets for two years, until he stumbled into the academy of Swordsmen one day when escaping a group of thieves after stealing from them. He became bitterer from his life on the streets.
An old man at the academy protected Roel from the thieves, displaying amazing swordsmanship. Roel learned that he was the master swordsman and swore to be taught by him. So he joined the school and made him way up with natural talent until he was accepted as an apprentice. He became the most gifted boy and graduated as the most skilled swords of the school.
While at the school he learned to be happy again and to grow up to be a noble man. He was a troublemaker though and got into trouble a lot, but his teacher protected him, saying he had a great destiny.  He had many friends; one in particular took him in and showered him the ropes. They became best friends. Two weeks before the boys were to graduate (you have to defeat the master after a tournament of your peers) his friend began mumbling about gods and disappeared soon after. Roel waited and took the test then set out to find his friends. This was the same day he magically could use spells and he meet Shaheen the talking otter. Shaheen promised if Roel helped him that they would find his friend and gain revenge against his brother.  So Roel set off on the adventure with the small rodent.
